Roof inspection should not be done annually. It is something you should do at least twice in a year and whenever a storm hits your area. Remember, the sooner you will catch the problem the lesser will be the cost of fixing it.

The inspection can be either carried out by a residential roofing company or can be done by you. If you want to DIY the job, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Take a walk around the house and look for any signs of roof damage, sagging or aging. Identify the areas that need attention residential roofing companyand take a closer look at it.
  2. Look for areas on your roof or in your gutter system where you see a lot of moss, algae or leaves. If it is there, it can cause water damage.
  3. Buckled and curled shingles can be a sign of greater asphalt roof damage. There are two major reasons responsible for this; first – poor ventilation of the attic, second – moisture in the underlayment and roof decking.
  4. Also look for missing, damaged or aged shingles. If a piece of shingle on your roof is missing, it can render your house vulnerable to weather damage.

  10. In case you have had some repairs in the recent past, look for the condition of the previous repairs.


  • Use binoculars if walking on the roof looks risky.
  • Be very careful while using the ladder and especially while descending down the ladder from the roof surface.
  • No matter how easy you think it is, it is not recommended that you climb a roof that is 6/12 or greater i.e. 6 feet rise for each 12 feet lateral travel.
